The lake supports excellent fishing for Walleye, Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Muskie, Bluegill, and Crappie in west-central Minnesota's lake country. Along with East Battle Lake, it forms one of the most popular fishing lake pairs in Otter Tail County, with the town of Battle Lake on the connecting channel.

West Battle Lake is located in Otter Tail County near the resort community of Battle Lake in west-central Minnesota. Battle Lake is a classic Minnesota small lake town with dining, shops, and a lively summer community. The difference between standard and HD maps is the number of layers. Standard maps have 1 land layer and 7 water layers. "The HD lake maps have 1 land layer and 14 water layers. So twice the detail. The HD Maps are limited to Extra Large, "XX Large, and Gigantic sizes only. On the smaller sizes the depth change of the wood is too extreme and you end up losing detail.
